1.) Trade winds blows in North-easterly direction in North hemisphere. Trade winds contain moisture in them. So the trade winds shed their moisture in Eastern part. On coming to the western Margin, their moisture decreases and becomes dry. Thus they don't cause rain in the Western part .

2.) Aravali ranges are parallel to the direction of cloud movement, so they there is no upliftment of clouds carrying moisture, so there are very little rains in Rajasthan. Thus the deserts are formed.

  • The south-west monsoon winds blow parallel to the Aravalli and are thus not obstructed by them and therefore, the rainfall is low in Rajasthan.

  • Secondly, the Aravallis are low residual hills and thus do no not obstruct the westerlies and therefore the rainfall is low.
