U can say that ammonia is a compound by 5 reasons but u require 2 so the first one is GENERAL PROPERTIES: for a mixture , each constituent substance retains its own properties but for a compound, properties are entirely different from those of its constituent elements. Ammonia's properties are not same as nitrogen's or hydrogen's but it has its own. Secondly, SEPARATION OF CONSTITUENTS: for a mixture, constituents can be separated by physical methods based on differences in physical properties but for compound, constituent elements can only be separated by chemical methods, NOT by physical methods. Since nitrogen and hydrogen can be separated by physical methods as they have formed a new substance which is ammonia so chemical method is the only way. So from those 2 points u can prove and conclude that ammonia is a compound made up of nitrogen and hydrogen.
