The measures of the Act 1956 introduced by Sinhalese Government made the Sri Lankan Tamils feel alienated.
(i) They felt that none of the major political parties led by the Buddhist Sinhalese were sensitive to their language and culture.
(ii) They also felt that the constitutions and government policies denied them equal political rights.
(iii) Thus, they realised that government has discriminate against them in getting jobs and other opportunities by ignoring their interests.
(iv) As a result, the relations between the Sinhalese and Tamil communities strained over time.
