Properties of solids:
1. Solids have a fixed shape and a fixed volume.

2. Solid cannot be compressed .

3. Solids have high densities they are heavy.

4. Solid do not fill their container completely.

5. Solids not flow.

6. There is a little space between the particles of a solid.

7. Solid particles attract each other very strongly.

Properties of liquid:

1. Liquids have fixed volume but they have no fixed shape they take the shape of the container in which they are placed.

2. Liquids cannot be compressed much.

3. Liquids have moderate to high densities there are usually less dense than solids.

4. Liquid do not fill their container completely.

5. Liquid generally flow easily.

6. Liquid particles have a greater space between them.

7. The force of attraction between liquid particle is less than solid particles.

Solution:

a)
Water is liquid at room temperature because of the following reasons:

1. Water has not fixed shape but fixed volume it takes the shape of the container.
2. Water can flow easily hence it is not rigid but a fluid.

b) An iron almirah is a solid at room temperature because of the following reasons:

1. An almirah has a fixed shape and a fixed volume.
2. It cannot flow hence it is rigid.
