The Revolt of 1857 led to the many major changes in the administration and the policy of the British Government. Followings are the major consequences of the revolt of 1857: The policy of annexation and expansion of British empire in India ended. British promised to respect the dignity and rights of the Native princes.

The results of the revolt of 1857 are:
(1) The British parliament passed a new act and transfered the powers of the east Indian company to the British crown in order to ensure a more responsible management of Indian affairs.
(2) It was decided to reduce the number of Indian soldiers and increase the proportion of British soldiers.
(3) The British decided to respect the customary,religious and social practices of the people of India.
(4) The land and property of Muslims was confiscated on a large scale.
(5) Policies were made to protect the zamindars and give them a security of rights over their land.
