The following measures could have been adopted to reduced ethnic conflict in Sri Lanka:

a. The government of Sri Lanka could have had power sharing arrangements between the two communities that is Sinhala and Tamil.
b. It should have allowed for the joint use of both Sinhala and Tamil language by not declaring Sinhala as the official language.
