alkanes are can't be hydrogenated wheras alkenes can be hydrogenated

tests
1. when we burn alkanes they will burn without giving sooty flame but when we burn alkene they burn with sooty flames..
2. we should convert alkenes with the help of addition reaction to change into saturated hydrocarbons
