Isotopes: The atoms of an element with different mass number or atomic mass are called isotopes. They have same number of protons and electrons but different number of neutrons. Therefore it in not necessary the all atoms of a given element contain the same number of neutrons in their nuclei. For example hydrogen has three isotopes H-1, H-2 and H-3 with 0, 1 and 2 neutrons in their nuclei respectively.
In the following ways are the isotopes similar:
1. They have same number of protons.
2. They have same number of electrons.
In the following ways are the isotopes differ:
1. They have different atomic mass
2. They have difference number of neutrons.
