Given :  3(y-5)-(y+5)=1

To find : value of  y

Solution:

3(y-5)-(y+5)=1

opening brackets first

=> 3y - 15 - y - 5  = 1

Combing terms together

=> 3y - y - 15 - 5 = 1

=> 2y - 20  = 1

Adding 20 on both sides

=> 2y - 20  + 20 = 1 + 20

=> 2y = 21

Dividing by 2 on both sides

=> 2y/2  = 21/2

=> y = 21/2

y = 21/2

Find the value of y

It is given to us that :-

3( y - 5)  - (y + 5) = 1

We will start by opening the brackets.

3y - 15 - y - 5 = 1

2y - 20 = 1

2y = 21

y = 21/2

or

y = 10.5

Some important rules while opening the brackets in multiplication :-
