I believe Pocahontas was successful at diplomacy.Being the daughter of a paramount chief, she risked and saved the life of Smith a captive of the native Americans when Smith was about to be executed by her father.

Pocahontas was captured  during the Anglo-Indian hostilities, she served the English and when she was released to go back home she chose to marry an Englishman John Rolfe. Pocahontas was later embraced by the English as the "civilized savage." and this made her a celebrity.
