Given alongside is the diagram of a klinostat. Study the same then answer the following questions:
(i) What is the instrument used to demonstrate in the laboratory?
(ii) How is it used to demonstrate the answer stated in (i) above?
(iii) What will you observe in the set up in the plant if it is kept as it is after a few days?
(iv) Give a reason for your answer in (iii) above.

The answers regarding clinostat are given below-

1. The instrument depicted is used to reduce effect of gravity on the plants observed in laboratory.

2. The reduced gravitropism is achieved by continuously rotating the apparatus at particular speed decided by different ways.

3. The observation will be, no bending of plant in any direction. The plant will grow horizontally.

4. The observation will be as mentioned, because weightless environment forms for the plant. The plant will not experience gravity and hence will grow horizontally, without bending.
