INCREASING CRIME RATES
Crime rate is defined as the ratio of crimes per area to the population of that area; expressed per 1000 population per year . The rate of crimes in cities like delhi as per the graph has increased 6 times over the past 10 years. In the year 2000 the crime rate was about 500. This when compared to the population at that time is quite low . But the following years marked a great rise in the rate of crime done . The crime rate increased to almost 2000 and above after 2004 . The main reason for this is the increase in number of people migrating from various parts of the country to reside in big cities like delhi. The increase in cost of living have also forced poor people to get involved in crimes. The mentality of the local people has also contributed towards the rise . The graph gives us a clear picture of rise in crime rates over the years . According to the graph crime rate is highest in 2007 (almost exceeding 3000 ). The government has been taking various measures and methods to curb these activities . The main step towards this was the plan to increase the number of police officers in violent areas together with this they have also been setting up various programmes to increase the awareness among people. Even though the government and its officials are trying their best , the people in the locality also have to get involved in these programmes to protect our country.
