This particular poem is on account of a child's first birthday. The poem is probably narrated from the perspective of the parent, who is reminiscing how the first year of the child's birth has been. The poem cherishes the child with over-brimming joy and fondness. The baby child is perceived by his/her parents as a lucky charm, as expressed in Lines 8 and 9. In short, this is a birthday poem for a child who has turned one.
