Given below is a situation when three friends were discussing about ocean water. Each of them gave a reason to explain why the water in seas and oceans is salty.
One of these reasons is scientifically wrong. Who has given the wrong reason and why do you think so? Friend 1: Some processes like underwater volcanic eruptions caused substances to mix with the sea water and increased the salt in it.
Friend 2: The Rivers dissolve minerals and other substances as they flow towards the seas. In this way, salts have collected in seas and oceans over many years.
Friend 3: Rainwater contains salt in it and heavy rainfall over many years has led to an accumulation of salt in the oceans and seas.
