• Once there was a salt merchant. He had a donkey, who would carry heavy loads of salt on his back to places.Sometimes the donkey had to cross a stream to transport salt from one village to another.
• Once the donkey slipped and fell into the stream while carrying the load of salt. As a result much of the salt got dissolved in water. Even though the merchant incurred a loss, the donkey was relieved as the load became lighter and it was now able to cross the stream easily.
• Next time when the donkey was about to carry the heavy load, he got an idea and deliberately fell into the stream so as to make the load lighter.
• The merchant suspected the intentions of the donkey. The donkey again repeated the same trick. The merchant became sure about the donkey’s evil intention.
• He decided to teach donkey a lesson. He loaded the donkey with cotton instead of salt. The donkey once again repeated the same trick and fell into the water.
• This time his load became heavy. It was very tiring for him to move and he realised his mistake. He stopped falling down into the stream and he repent his actions. The merchant had taught the donkey a good lesson.

Once there was a salt merchant who used to work his donkey so hard that the animal rarely has any rest time. The donkey was made to carry heavy loads of salt on its back, without any proper rest or nutrition.

One day, they had to cross a river. The donkey slipped and stayed in the water long enough to melt the salt and thus lessening his load. The donkey realized the trick and did that numerous times. But The wise owner understood the trick his donkey had done to him. He did not want to immediately punish him. So, he came up with a new trick.

On the next trip, he made the donkey carry a huge sack of cotton along the same route. The donkey thought of deceiving his master again and did the same thing with the cotton. He sat in the water for some time, hoping to dissolve the cotton just like the salt. But when he emerged out of the water, instead of getting lighter, the load became heavier than before, for he did not know that the cotton absorbs the water and not get dissolved, He had learned his lesson the hard way.
