*Story was set to some 5 years back*
Mukti did not go to school. Her mother was not well. Mukti's family was a lower-middle-class family. Mukti's mother was a single parent who faced the harsh reality of life since her dear husband departed. Be it the in-law's shunt, society's remarks, abandonment by the relatives, she faced every nightmare!
Mukti's mother knows what life is, how quickly things may turn upside down. She was naive. Her feet were always confined to those four walls. She worked blood and toil all alone to fill her little one's stomach and to provide her daughter a quality education, as she long back realized that 'If there is something that holds the power to change one's fate, it's education alone.' She never let anything come in between Mukti's education. She always dreamt of Mukti living an independent life proudly.
Sticking to the dreams of her Mother, Mukti's love for studies had no bounds. She loved learning things and implementing them. She became a child prodigy, maybe the situations she was brought up in filled her heart with determination and made her one. Weeks before her boards, Mukti's mother fell ill. Mukti took leave from school to look after her mother. "You should never miss your school. I’ll be fine. It’s just a simple cough." Her mother would say. Mukti however, knew better.
Mukti kept on preparing for the boards from home, keeping an eye on her mother's health constantly. But after her mother's constant pestering, she started to go to school again with a promise of taking a complete rest at home from her mother. Her mother felt uneasy, but she never let her daughter know as all she wanted was 'her daughter should never bow down in helplessness, should never be dependent on someone and most importantly, should always be respected.'
Days passed! One day, on returning home, Mukti found her mother unresponsive. She got to know that her mother reached heaven leaving her to deal with the situations alone, leaving her warmth behind in the form of love and affection she had shown all her life. She was determined to make her mother's dream come true, as it's her time to make her mother proud. She studied hard, gave exams, received results. Mukti placed her A+ certificate, a merit certificate, and a trophy in front of her mother’s picture and said, "This is for you, Maa! Miss You!"
Years passed! Her determination kept on getting stronger every passing year. She became an IAS officer. She filled a lot of lives with light. She herself adopted the responsibility of hundreds of girl children who were denied education. She made them study and became a proud mother of them. And her mother showered her love and happiness from heaven in the form of rain telling how proud she was of her daughter.
