Inspiring Story of Sacrifice and Loyalty
Indian Struggle for Freedom is replete with real life stories of sacrifices of freedom fighters. Most of them are known; but many are unknown to the people. One such story is the story of a newly married young doctor and his wife. This young doctor was actively involved in the freedom movement. The British police was after him. One night after attending a secret meeting with his fellow freedom fighters, as he was returning home, he was arrested by the police. All the attempts of the police to elicit information pertaining to the fellow freedom fighters that might lead to their arrest failed.
He was shifted to the notorious Cellular Jail at Andaman and Nicobar Islands. This jail was known for its cruel treatment to its inmates; most of them were the freedom fighters. Once, the inmates revolted against the cruel jail authorities. However, the revolt was suppressed with an iron hand. As a consequence to the revolt many inmates were hanged. The doctor was among those who were hanged. The innocent and faithful wife of the freedom fighter doctor grew old waiting for her husband and breathed her last in the hope he would come home someday.
