option C is correct , k = 35/2

Given

  • 2x+7y=11 and
  • 5x+ky -25=0

To find

  • The value of k

Solution

we are provided with the system of linear equations and are asked to find the value of k such that both the equation shall not have a common point ,ie intersection.

we know that for a system of linear equations to be inconsistent there should be parallel or they should not have a point of intersection. In other case the system of equations are said to be consistent

for the system of equations to be inconsistent the condition that must satisfy is given by,

a1/a2 = b1 /b2 and should not be equal to the ratio of c1/c2 (where these are the coefficient of X and Y of the equations respectively and c1,c2 are constants)

2x+7y-11 =0

5x+ky -25=0

substituting values in the above equation,

2/5 = 7/k

or, k = 35/2

Therefore, the option C is correct
