Given : line PQ of length 4.2 cm,

To Find :  construct line AB such that the length of line AB is twice that of line PQ.

Verify by measurement.

Solution:

Step1    : Draw a line segment PQ = 4.2 cm

Step 2  : Draw a ray  AX

Step 3  : Using Compass width = PQ   and taking A as center cut ray AX at Y

Step 4 : Keeping Compass width same   and taking Y as center cut ray AX further at B

AB = AX + XY

=> AB = PQ + PQ

=> AB = 2 PQ

=> AB = 2(4.1)

=> AB = 8.2 cm

Measure  AB by scale/ruler

AB = 8.2 cm

Hence Verified

Given:

Line PQ of length 4.2cm.

To Find:

Construct the AB such that the length of line AB is twice that of line PQ.

Verify by measurement.

Solution:

STEPS:-

Draw a line segment of 4.2cm and name it as PQ.

Draw a ray AX.

Take A as centre and cut a ray AX at Y using compass.

Keep the compass width as same and now take Y as centre and cut ray AX at B.

Therefore, AB = AX + XY

⟹ AB = PQ + PQ

⟹ AB = 2 PQ

⟹ AB = 2 (4.1)

⟹ AB = 8.2cm

Verifying:

To verify measurement, Measure AB with scale and it will be AB = 8.2cm.

⁂ Hence Verified.
