p + q - pq = -3

it is given that, (3x - 1)(x + p) = 3x² + qx - 2

⇒3x(x + p) - 1(x + p) = 3x² + qx - 2

⇒3x² + 3xp - x - p = 3x² + qx - 2

⇒3x² + (3p - 1)x - p = 3x² + qx - 2

on comparing both sides,

we get, (3p - 1) = q .....(1)

and -p = -2 ⇒p = 2 putting in equation (1),

3 × 2 -1 = 5 = q

now p + q - pq = 5 + 2 - 5 × 2

= 7 - 10

= -3

it's easy, isn't it ?
