putting \: the \: value \: of \: y \: in \: equation \: (i) \: we \: get

8x - 7y = 32

8x - 7 \times 2 = 32

8x - 14 = 32

8x = 32  + 14

8x = 46

x =  \frac{46}{8}  =  \frac{23}{4}
