The value of a is equal to 4.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given,

a – 1 , a + 3 , 3a – 1 are in Arithmetic Progression(AP).

To find, the value of a = ?

Here, first term (A) = a – 1

Let the coommon difference = d

We know that,

The coommon difference(d) = Second term - First term = Third term - Second term

a + 3 - (a – 1 ) = 3a – 1 - (a + 3)

a + 3 - a + 1 = 3a – 1 - a - 3

3 + 1 = 2a – 4

4 = 2a – 4

⇒ 2a = 4 + 4 = 8

a=\dfrac{8}{2}=4

∴ The value of a = 4

Thus, the value of a is equal to 4.
