Given ∠TOS is a right angle with ray OP at the middle of the angle, ∠TOS

is the sum of two angles ∠TOP and ∠POS and ∠TOP ≅ ∠POS,

m∠TOP = 2a + 9

To find : the value of a

A. a = 18

B. a = 19

C. a = 20

D. a = 21

Solution:

∠TOS is a right angle

=> m∠TOS = 90°

∠TOS is the sum of two angles ∠TOP and ∠POS

=> m∠TOS  =  m∠TOP + m∠POS

From both

  m∠TOP + m∠POS  = 90°

∠TOP ≅ ∠POS,

=> m∠TOP = m ∠POS

=> m∠TOP +  m∠TOP  = 90°

=>  2m∠TOP  = 90°

=>  m∠TOP  = 45°

    m∠TOP = (2a + 9)°

Equate

2a + 9 = 45

=> 2a = 36

=> a = 18

Value of a is 18
