sinA = A/B = P/H

P = A and H = B

By Pythagoras Theorem,

H^2 = B^2 + P^2

B^2 = H^2 - P^2

B^2 = b^2 - a^2

B = √b^2 - a^2

Therefore,

tan = P/ B = a / √b^2 - a^2

Hope it helps you
