SOLUTION

GIVEN

The nth term of Tn in a sequence is  \sf{T_n = 4n - 7},where n=1,2,3,4....

TO DETERMINE

(1) The 8th term

(2) The term equals to 53

EVALUATION

Here it is given that

 \sf{T_n = 4n - 7}

(1) Hence the required 8 th term is obtained by putting n = 8

Hence the required 8th term

 \sf{ = T_8}

= ( 4 × 8 ) - 7

= 32 - 7

= 25

Hence 8 th term = 25

(2) Let n th term = 53

So by the given condition

 \sf{T_n = 53}

 \sf{ \implies \: 4n - 7 = 53}

 \sf{ \implies \: 4n  = 60}

 \sf{ \implies \: n = 15}

Hence 15 th term = 53
