Answer:

(i)

=a⁴+2a³-6a-1+(11a³-a+a⁴)

= a⁴+2a³-6a-1+11a³-a+a⁴

= a⁴+a⁴-6a-a+2a³+11a³-1

= 2a⁴-7a+13a³-1

(ii)

when a = -1,

2a⁴-7a+13a³-1

=2×(-1)⁴-7×(-1)+13×(-1)³-1

= 2×1-(-7)+(-13)-1

= 2+7-13-1

= 9-14

= -5
