Given the red blood cells in Picture A was obtained from an isotonic solution, what can you deduce about the solution from which red blood cells in Picture B is obtained? (i) How would you describe the appearance of the red blood cells in Picture B? (ii) Predict and explain what will happen to red blood cells from Picture A if it was placed in pure water.

▪When a red blood cell is placed in ahypertonic solution, it shrinks as water is drawn out of the cell and into the surrounding solution.

If the sameblood cell is placed in a hypotonicsolution, the blood cell grows in size.Blood cells in isotonic solutions do not shrink or swell.
