Given : Two urns: u contains 4 red and 6 green balls and v contains 5 red and 7 green balls.

A ball is selected from u and put unseen in v, where then two ball are selected from v.

To Find : the probability that the two balls from v are green

Solution:

u contains 4 red and 6 green balls

Probability red ball selected = 4/10  = 2/5

Probability green ball selected = 6/10  = 3/5

Red Ball selected then v has  6 Red and 7 green Balls

P (2 G)  = ⁷C₂ /¹³C₂  = 7 * 6 / ( 13 * 12)  = 7/26

Green Ball selected then v has  5 Red and 8 green Balls

P (2 G)  = ⁸C₂ /¹³C₂  = 8 * 7 / ( 13 * 12)  = 14/39

probability that the two balls from v are green

= (2/5) ( 7/26)  + (3/5)(14/39)

= 7/65  +  14/65

= 21/65

Probability that the two balls from v are green = 21/65
