Solution,

x ^{2}  - y ^{2}  = 20 \\  =   > (x + y)(x - y) = 20 \\ putting \: back \: the \: value \: of \:  \\ (x - y) \\  =  > (x + y)(18) = 20 \\  =  > (x + y) = 20 \div 18 \\   = > (x + y) = 10 \div 9
