substituting eq (i) in eq (ii)__

x-2=x²-x-10___(iii)

x²-2x-8=0

(x+2)(x-4)=0

so, x= -2 or 4

putting x = 4 in eq (iii)

4-2=4²-4-10

2=2

hence, x = 2 is the right answer

since, y=x-2

y=4-2

y=2
