Just the chemical equation lacks to provide much information like state of reactants and products, involvement of heat during reaction etc.

To overcome this we add notations like delta to indicate the involvement of heat, mention the state in parenthesis beside the reactants and products, putting up / down arrow to denote evolve gas / precipitation.

e.g.

C (s) + O2 (g) = CO2 (g) ↑ + Δ

Explanation:

Answer:

1. The chemical equation can be made more informative by mentioning the physical states of the

reactants and the products.

2. If a gas is liberated in the product, then it is represented by an upward directing

arrow (↑) and if the

product formed is in the form of a precipitate, it is represented by a downward directing arrow (↓).
