Glass is known to be a transparent material. But ground glass is opaque and white in colour. Why?

many substances have certain properties that give them certain names but these names are given only after the certain substance satisfies the needs.
Example in Glass it's properties are -
: transparent
:smooth texture(not molecular level)
and many other.
ground glass doesn't satisfy one of them but satisfies most of them say there are 5 properties if it satisfies 4 but not only 1.
Yet it is said to be glass.
