The ancient period of Indian history ended with the death of Harsha. T presence of powerful dynasties like Palas, Pratiharas, Rashtrakutas, Cho and Rajputs mark the beginning of the Early Medieval Period, and dynasties of the Delhi Sultanate, regional Kingdoms and the Mughals bele to the kingdoms of the Late Medieval Period.
India was known by many names in different periods. Bharatvarsha, Bh and Hindustan were the names of our country in the olden times. Ir the modern name, was from the historical river Indus. The ancient G referred to the Indians as Indoi, the people of the Indus'.
