This is because,

The ship is hollow and the hollow portion is filled with air. This makes the average density of the ship less than the densitt of water. Thus by displacing inly a small portion of the water, the weight of the displaced water becomes equal to the weight of the ship and it thus floats.

On other hand, iron nails sink because they are dense and not hollow!

Titanic sank because it crashed with an iceberg! This had caused damaged to its engines.
