Answer:

Globalization has a profound impact on all of us. Personally, I wake up in my nice soft bed, with blankets made from China. These blankets would have typically been hand sewn here in America. I then eat breakfast, which will often consist of milk or orange juice, and an apple from a European country. However, globalization has good and bad effects. The good effects are increased trade between nations, faster transportation, and more readily available medical help. It has never been easier to experience different cultures through the advancements in technology. Computers can do things people could never dream of. As for the negative effects, with easier transportation for people, means easier transportation for viruses. Disease is large threat that we are still trying to deal with. Invasive species can harm the ecosystem. Products don't last as long, as companies typically go for quantity over quality. Globalization affects my life in more ways that imaginable. The clothes I'm wearing are different than the ones I wore 10 years ago in the sense that the very cotton it's made from could be from a foreign country, as the U.S. has been losing dominance as the biggest cotton exporter. I believe in a religion that started in Europe thousands of years ago. I eat food that is the main dish in other cultures. I had the ability to fly down to Florida in a mere 3 hours. My keyboard was manufactured by a Chinese company in a factory over in China. And even my great great grandparents moving here in the first place was a result of globalization.

Answer:

I don’t remember the first time I heard the term “globalization.”

It could have been something brief in high school or something I read online. Maybe the term appeared in my life just from being on my booklist for the past two semesters and the basis of two of my classes.

This school year has helped me shape my views about how the world around me functions. Thanks to this newfound understanding, I now see how the smallest things make the world turn.
