in glycogen molecules, chain is formed by C1 - C4 glycosidic linkage.... whereas branching occurs in ✴️C1 - C6 of two different chains....

Branching occurrs by alpha 1,6 linkage ( glycosidic linkage between 1st and 6th carbon of glycogen).
Remember glycosidic linkage is formed by the loss of a water molecule (dehydration).
