Sun is a brightest star while the moon don't have its own light it takes the light of sun and moon doesn't take sun's whole light....
So sun is brighter than moon..

The sun is brighter than moon because sun is a star and stars are the body which emits their own light whereas the moon can not emit it's own light .And so it is absolutely clear that the sun would be and is brighter then the moon.
