G0 is a non-replicative stage of the cell cycle, and not an exit of the cell from cell cycle. G0 is the resting phase of cells which can be induced by different environmental conditions of stress, nutrient deficiency or cell damage.

Cells enter the G0 phase to prepare to get back to its normal cycle of cell division. Certain cells like the neurons are in permanent G0 resting stage and they continue to perform their functions while remaining in that stage. Other somatic cells usually reversibly enter G0 phase at different times.
