Dear class,
Today I will talk about the great legend of Heer Ranjha. Since Love is the one consistent subject throughout the folklore of Pakistan. Heer Ranjha revolves around the tragic tales of two lovers. Ranjha was an unfortunate man that was forced to leave his village and land after his father's death. He was a magnificent flute player. He fell in love with a beautiful girl, Heer and worked as a cattle farmer. He made Heer fall in love with him and the two secretly had an affair for years.
One day they got caught by Heer's uncle and Ranjha was exiled from the village. Thus, he wandered across Punjab, travelling from city to city till he met a band of Jogis. Ranjha decided to relinquish the material world and dedicate the rest of his life to the Lord. Finally Heer's parents agreed to their marriage however fate had something else in store for them. Heer's uncle fed her poison and she died, Ranjha, stricken with grief ate the same poison and ended his life as well. Their lifeless corpses laid next to each other and the lovers were now united in death. Their graves are regularly visited by couples.
