Junko Tabei wasn't like most regular girls of her time who didn't show much interest in sports. Junko was passionate about mountaineering from the start when she joined the mountaineering club outside of her school in 1962.During that time hardly any girl went to university and here she was making way to mountain climb. She felt some inferiority complex at first because most of the club members were boys and female students here were from cities. Considering she was from Fukushima, she felt a little nervous. On her climbing experience, she was surprised to see the rocky dry hills and some hot springs. She climbed the mountain in summer yet she felt quite cold. She also formed the ladies climbing club for women in 1970's.
