Gold is a very precious metal. Pure gold is very soft and therefore, it is not suitable for making jewellery. It is alloyed with silver or copper to make it hard. But, sometimes jewellers mix a large quantity of copper and silver in gold to earn more profit. (Value Based Question)
(i) What precautions should you take while purchasing gold jewellery ?
(ii) Why does the Government insist on purchasing Hallmarked jewellery ?
(iii) What is the value associated with it ?

(i) We should always purchase gold jewellery from a branded shop with proper receipt and Hallmark certificate.

(ii)   The government insists on purchasing Hallmarked jewellery, as it contains the gold and its alloyed metal (i.e., copper or silver) in a fixed ratio.

(iii) Associated Value : People will be more careful and educated and thus, cannot be fooled easily while shopping jewellery and other products.
