gold ornament do not change their appearance on exposure to air where as silver ornaments appear black after some time .what could be the reason for this change

Gold as we know, is one of the most unreactive of all metals. Therefore, it does not show corrosion even on prolonged exposure to air. Only Aqua Regia is able to dissolve gold.

Silver on the other hand, reacts with sulphur compounds present in the air and forms silver sulphide, which gives it a black colour.
