HOPE IT WILL BE USEFUL
Goldsmiths and Jewellers add copper (often) or silver (rarely) to gold when making jewellery. Copper is melted together with gold to make an alloy, which can then be beaten, drawn or twisted into various patterns. Gold isn't good for jewellery. Pure gold is a very malleable.

Since pure and natural gold is very soft and cannot be drawn into thin wires(ductility) or beaten into thin sheets (malleability) , jewellery of 22 carat gold and above is not possible .
To increase the hardness the gold , several metals or rather lustrous metals like chromium are added to it to increase lustre and hardness.
