only copper plating is used in earthing.
iron plating is not used in earthing

because lightning conductor is kept to protect the building or any other place from catching fire
so when the lightning strikes it provides an easy path for the charge to pass through the earth

Iron as a metal is a good conductor. But it has a problem, Corrosion. When a conductor is used for earthingpurpose, the corrosion rate should be minimum as rusting or corrosion increases the resistance. For anearthing system to be reliable, the conductivity should be high.
