The elements are arranged in seven horizontal rows, in order of increasing atomic number from left to right and top to bottom. The rows are called periods, and they are numbered from 1 to 7.

Answer:-

The elements in a group are separated by definite gap of atomic number i.e. 2,8,8,18,18,32.

Extra Info:-

1. Elements in each group have similar chemical properties due to same valence electrons or same outer electronic configuration.

2. The physical properties of elements like melting point, boiling point, density etc. in a group follows a systematic pattern.

3. In first Period there are two elements and IInd and IIIrd period are 8,8 while in IVth and Vth periods 18,18 elements. In VIth and VIIth have 32-32 elements.
