yes atomic number of an element is more appropriate para metre than its atomic mass ,as when we take the example of an element whose atomic no is 13 then we can know that only one element would come b/w the element having atomic no 13and 15 that is 14 but in term atomic mass we can't conclude that how many element would come b/w two element because atomic no change in regular manner but atomic mass do not change in regular manner.and in term of isotopes we can easily place the element according to atomic no because different isotopes of same element have same atomic no but in term of atomic mass we can't do so.
