Character Sketch of Aliokhin
Explanation:
In the story, Aliokhin is described as a successful farmer who runs a mill. He also owns a large plain house with a servant for help. He is pictured as a man of about forty, with a tall and stout disposition. The narrator says that his looks deceived the fact of him being a farmer and he seemed more like a professor or a painter. His was wearing a grimy white shirt and rope belt, and pants instead of trousers: and his boots were covered with mud and straw. His nose and eyes were black with dust too. All these features points out his strenuous efforts in the fields and also a hard-working character. In the story, he also appears to be a cordial person when he treats Ivan and Bourkin with great hospitality at his home. He also appears to be listening to Ivan’s story patiently but yet unwillingly. All this clearly indicates his amiable and humble personality.
