According to Historians and experts on the subject, King Kharavela of Kalinga who ruled in the first or second century BCE is supposed to have attacked and conquered Gorathagiri, which is near Barabar Hills, with a large army. Gorathagiri and Barabar Hills are located in the present-day district of Jehanabad in the state of Bihar.

King Kharavela was the most famous king of the Mahameghavahana dynasty. He is said to have followed Jainism, however some historians are of the opinion that he followed several other religions.
