You can write any type of story you want but just avoid grammatical mistake. And write the story in simple and clear words. In order to write more don't repeat same things a number of time.
It is more better if your story has some moral.
All the best for your exam.

Hiii!
I have a whole list of this !!
See, thing is, a board correcter has to check 1000s of papers per day. You can imagine how annoyed he will be!
This is why, the essay you write, has to be good. Write an essay with the correct length as specified to you (I'm ICSE and I'm not sure what your length should be sorry)
1. Write it in such a way that the very first sentence you write is enough to pull in the examiner's attention. It should be something completely unexpected, something you don't normally see young kids write.
For example, I had an essay topic of writing an original short story starting with the words, "Peter Vincent...."
I started it with "Peter Vincent was a drug addict." And I ended up getting a solid 23/25 in that paper!
2. Choose the topic you know you can write a lot in. Don't take a topic which you are kachcha-pakka in, and do not keep repeating the same facts in different words.
3. Correctors love horror. They love anything that will keep them awake at night. They love anything that will keep them waiting and craving for more, asking themselves, "What happens next? I wish this was a novel."
4. Make sure the first 200-or-so words are written without any grammatical errors or punctuation errors. It puts a good impression to the teacher.
5. Underline the points/facts/interesting sentences you want the corrector to see. Make sure it is interesting and easy to read, though.
6. Leave a line after every paragraph OR start a new paragraph with a 3-finger-space. It shows neatness.
7. Write in the best handwriting you possibly can.
8. If you are writing mystery/thriller/horror/adventure, hardest topics to write, then make sure you have a plot. Do not start with a good story and end up making it extremely childish. It will make you lose marks.
9. Just calm down and set your imagination wild! I'm sure you'll do great!
Good luck!! <3
