Explanation:The Ladli (beloved girl) Scheme was adopted in January 2008 to empower the girl child. Its goal is to raise the status of the girl child in the family and the society. It aims to modify the mindset of the people towards a girl child and to blur the gender differences.
In order to overcome the problem of female foeticide and lack of female education the government grants financial assistance for a girl child at different stages from birth till she becomes 18 years old. When she is born her family is given INR 11,000 if she is born in a hospital and INR 10,000 if she is born at home. INR 5,000 is given each time when she gets admission into Class I, VI, IX, X and XII.
The amount is deposited with the SBI Life Insurance Co. Ltd. When the girl attains the age of 18 years she can claim the maturity amount and utilize it for higher studies, vocational training or for starting a small business.
